This continues the lesson on the second class of Scars, which fits with the Second Commandment: “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” Thorns speak of rejection. Our thorns of rejection prick us inwardly, and they prick others outwardly. Thorns cause weariness of mind. In the story of Jacob and Esau, in Genesis 27:42-46, Rebekah said, “I am weary [which is the word for thorns — koots] of life.”

John 3:16 says, “God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” The Hebrew word for world, o-lawm, is the same word for Eternity. God has loved us from Eternity, before we came into Time.
