PARABLE OF THE SOWER — 3RD MESSAGE.....(FRI PM 8/28/98)
STONY GROUND
In Matthew 13:5,6, the Sower sowed Seed, and some fell on wayside soil; some fell on stony ground; some fell among the thorns; and some fell on good ground. This message deals with the stony ground.
The Seeds that fell upon stony places sprang up quickly. However, when the sun came up, they were scorched, and because they had no root, they withered away. Verses twenty and twenty-one explain that the sun represents tribulations or persecutions that arise because of the Word. The Hebrew word for word in this Scripture refers to Word that is not understood. In times of persecution, the person with stony ground becomes offended. He totters, collapses, faints, and falls over because he does not understand the Power of the Word, even in its Seed form. And the Seed withers away in stony ground because it lacks moisture.
