Sermon 1431 - The City of Pride in Our Unconscious Will, Our Inner City - 7th Message…..(Fri pm 3/22/96)

This message deals with the first class of hardness (kawshaw) as God revealed it to Hannah in the first chapter of First Samuel. The Stature of Truth concerning Hannah’s experience includes the following points: (I) Barren (The LORD Was Her Adversary in the Spiritual Realm); (II) Adversary in Natural Realm (Peninnah Provoked Her); (III) Bitter (Hannah Did Pawlal Praying); and (IV) Misunderstood (Eli Thought She Was Drunk).The perfect relationship with God is silence, on one side of the Scales, and speaking on the other side of the Scales. In the beginning, Hannah did the speaking and the intercession. But, later, after she had descended deeper within her being, to where her spirit and her soul were so affected that human words could not express her feelings, only her mouth moved. Although Eli misunderstood her praying and accused her of being drunk, she addressed him as “my lord” because she honoured his office. When public officials fail to uphold high standards of integrity, we have to distinguish between the person and the office, and we still should honour the office.
