THE NEW COMMANDMENT......(SUN PM 10/19/97)

The text is Matthew 22:36-40. When the Pharisees asked Jesus, “Which is the great commandment in the law?” He replied “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with with all thy mind.” He said, “This is the first and great Commandment.” Then, He said, “The second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.” Thus, the Old Commandment is that we love the LORD God, that we love ourself, and that we love our neighbour as we love ourself. In John 15:12, Jesus gave a New Commandment, saying, “This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.”
