Sermon 1437 - City of Pride in Our Unconscious Will - 11th Message…..(Sun pm 4/28/96)

This lesson deals with Second Kings, chapter two, and tells about Elisha’s determination to stay with Elijah as he went from Gilgal, to Bethel, to Jericho, and to Jordan. When Elijah asked Elisha what he would like for him to do for him before he was taken away, Elisha said, “I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.” Elijah said that Elisha had asked a hard thing (kawshaw) because bestowing spiritual Gifts was not within his power. God is the One Who bestowed upon Elisha the prophetic vision that allowed him to see the Prophet when he was taken up in a Whirlwind into Heaven. Elisha picked up the mantle that Elijah had dropped, rolled it up as he had seen Elijah do, and smote the waters of Jordan, saying, “Where is the LORD God of Elijah?”
