Little David, God's Choice Of King For Israel
Details
God showed the Prophet Samuel that he had chosen little David to be the king over Israel,
although David was the youngest of Jesse’s eight sons; also, David was a lowly shepherd, tending
his father’s sheep.
David’s good looks were very noteworthy. His musical talent, combined with his experience as
a warrior and a fighter, constrained King Saul’s servant to recommend David as the person who
could play his harp for King Saul and thus drive away the evil spirit from God that troubled Saul
because of his disobedience.
As a youth, David had already acquired a glowing testimony of victory over his enemies,
despite his young age. Although young and small of stature, David was highly exalted when the
LORD commanded him to fight against Goliath and the defiant words from his mouth. The giant,
Goliath, was about nine feet and six inches tall. Except for Goliath’s javelin, his defensive
weapons were of bronze, while his attacking weapons were of iron. But David carried the
LORD’s Seal of Mercy and Grace, both within his lover heart and without his body, which made
him invincible in the face of Israel’s enemies, including the formidable giant Goliath!
